Rand slips again on edgy global markets

The rand weakened further at midday on Monday‚ looking to end the volatile month on a sharply weaker note. The rand slipped to session lows of R13.3639 to the dollar‚ extending losses to some 5% since the start of the month‚ amid global risk aversion."Global equity markets have come off again after stabilising last week‚" Bidvest Bank chief currency dealer Ion de Vleeschauwer said.The relatively thin liquidity as a result of the UK public holiday may also have exaggerated moves on the day. At 11.41am‚ the rand was at R13.3524 against the dollar from a previous close of R13.2943.Against the euro the rand was at R14.9646 from a previous close of R14.8574.
