Phelo Bala has opened up about turning his back on being a sangoma for the sake of his Christian faith. The youngest of the Bala Brothers trio, he declared on social media at the weekend that, following his confession onCliffCentral last week, he does not regret his decision.Last year the musician left Johannesburg for the Eastern Cape and underwent training to become a sangoma. But nine months down the line Bala quit, choosing to be a Christian, and is now back to spreading the gospel through music.Bala said on CliffCentral that he chose Christianity over ancestor worship and that, after going through the rituals, he decided that being a sangoma was not for him.During the show, Bala said: "For me it was the realisation that ... I was drawing further away from Christ."I realised for myself and my faith that I was not really comfortable with mixing the two. That was when I realised that no, this is not for me."We sing this song, 'I will serve no foreign god' ... for me there is only one God and He is a jealous god. I am the last to judge anyone."So when people want to know what it is to be Christian, I can explain. It is like spreading the word."Bala is now working with Joyous Celebration.Although he could not be reached for comment, he posted a message on Instagram: "It is not about what people think of me, but rather how many lives are saved. My story can be painted in many ways, and I might be quoted out of context, but all I know is that I have a testimony ..."Bala said he is an example of what God can do because he did what many fear to do."I took the risk of faith and trusted in Him. I am still alive because He saves, delivers, forgives and restores."..
