Free pizza reward for stolen banner

A reward of free pizza for a year is being offered in exchange for information that could lead to the recovery of a stolen advertising banner in Newcastle. Roman's Pizza and Champ Marketing put up the unusual reward on Friday when the double-printed 6m-high banner disappeared from an island on Hardwick Street in the KwaZulu-Natal town."The banner was on the island for 25 days, advertising Roman's latest special, and would have been removed on October 1. Banners are expensive and this one cost R6000," Champ Marketing's Johan Pieters said. After confirming that the local municipality was not responsible for the removal of the banner, Pieters opened a case of theft at the Newcastle police station."We then decided to offer a reward. We want the banner returned because it is important for people's property to be respected. The banner was stolen and we feel that the person who unlawfully removed it from the island needs to be prosecuted," he said.He said Romans would give away a pizza every week for an entire year - the equivalent to the value of the missing banner - to the person who provides solid information on the theft.Pieters had hoped that the reward would have been claimed by yesterday."We haven't received any information as yet, but we are hoping that someone comes forward soon."He suspects that the banner was stolen to be used for shelter."It's quite a thick banner and can easily be used as a roof."..
