Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West will be blasted by a heat wave this week.

Johannesburg will be 32ºC today - and stay over 30ºC  until Saturday.

Pretoria meanwhile will be a sweltering 35ºC today and Thursday, while Mpumalanga and North West will be exceptionally hot, too.

Here are some tips for the heat wave:

1: Stay hydrated.

Remember water is very important to keeping you alive - and maintaining your body temperature as you sweat to keep cool. Try not to drink alcohol as it dehydrates you. Also don't exercise when the temperatures are above 30 degrees.

2: It keeps the lotion in the fridge

Storing lotions in the fridge means that when you've just finished a hot day on your feet - there is something nice and cool to look forward to at the end of it. Hey, you try finding a video about putting lotion on feet that isn't porn.

3: Keep a spray bottle full of water

A spray bottle full of water can make things a little more bearable in a hot summer.

4: Fans - they work

Even if you have air conditioning - fans can circulate the air providing some relief to extreme heat.

5: Hat trick

According to MedicineNET - some tennis players keep cool by pouring cold water into their hats and then quickly putting them back on.

6: Take a bath

Baths and showers aren't just about keeping from smelling bad - they cool you down too.
