Giant gas tank for KZN port

The recent shortage of liquefied petroleum gas in the country has pushed companies to invest in gas storage facilities, said Simphiwe Mehlomakhulu, chairman of Reatile Gaz. Speaking at an opening ceremony of the Reatile Gaz depot in Hammersdale yesterday, Mehlomakhulu said as oil refineries aged, gas companies were finding it harder to secure adequate supply during maintenance at refineries.Holding company Reatile plans to invest R1-billion in the Richards Bay port by importing gas and storing it.Through a partnership with Vopak, the world's largest storage tank provider, Reatile will build a 20000-ton storage facility in the port."Every time a refinery is on a shutdown, gas companies lose out because gas is the by-product of what gets produced in refineries," said Mehlomakhulu.The group is currently in talks with Transnet for an offset area within the port to be commissioned by 2018...
