When I first came to America, people who had heard me sing on the radio were surprised I was white. Because of my hair, a lot of black people still tell me I'm passing as white," Jones told The Times Magazine. When he was born, his mother was asked if she had any "black blood"."My mother came out in big dark patches on her body. They asked if she had any black blood; she said she didn't know. I want to know," he said.Jones was born in Pontypridd, South Wales. His mother, Freda, was of Welsh and English ancestry and his father of English descent. ..
