Dome alone: Cassper's rant

04 November 2015 - 02:05 By Rea Khoabane

Hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest and his fans have lashed out at local media, accusing it of failing to give his #FillUpTheDome concert the coverage it deserved. Nyovest, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, made history on Saturday when he became the first South African artist to sell out the TicketPro Dome. The 20 000-seater venue has hosted international acts such as Chris Brown, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Trey Songs.Local band The Parlotones attempted to sell out the venue but only sold 10000 tickets. The Gusheshe hit maker took to Twitter on Monday, accusing the media of not documenting and covering his historic achievement."The president recognised us before your local newspaper. But when they make up their lies about us we are front page."Sports Minister and MC of the event Fikile Mbalula, tweeted: "Shameful that newspapers didn't cover such a historic moment in our popular culture."When asked whether the media was given access to the event, Nyovest responded: "Does the media get invites to our private lives? No, but they write front page lies about them every 2 weeks."Local media that previewed the event claim to have not been given accreditation by Nyovest's management team. The Times is yet to receive a response to questions sent to Nyovest last Tuesday via his public relations company AG Mobile ahead of his concert.Photographers, including those from The Times, were told that no cameras would be allowed at the concert. Two weeks prior to the event, journalists were given forms to fill out for accreditation. It is believed of the 100 applications, only eight were approved.Nyovest could not be reached for comment, in spite of calls and text messages sent to him yesterday...
