Empangeni police arrest kidnapper after tracing snatched baby in two days

Empangeni police on Friday announced the arrest of a 23-year-old woman two days after she allegedly kidnapped a three-week-old baby. She is said to have taken the child from the 17-year-old mother after convincing her to take her to take the baby to hospital for a check-up on Tuesday.“After the check-up was concluded‚ she left her baby with the suspect and went to buy something to eat‚” a police statement said.“When she came back‚ the suspect has already disappeared with her baby.”A case of kidnapping was opened at Empangeni police station‚ and Empangeni Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit officers traced both the baby and the suspect on Thursday.The suspect will appear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court soon.KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “We appeal to parents to take extra precautions when they meet strangers who want to help them with their children."..
