Hip-hop debate gets hotter

The hip-hop world is about to come under intense scrutiny and MTV Base has the microscope. Following the success of last year's "Hottest MC Debate", the channel has called on industry experts to yet again deliberate on who deserves industry gravitas in the South African arena.The panel will analyse a wide range of criteria - from style, album sales, impact, lyrics, social media buzz and other intangible factors.The panel will consist of comedian Loyiso Gola, Metro FM DJ T'bo Touch, Hype magazine editor Fred Kayembe, 5FM DJ Ms Cosmo, Gagasi FM's Vukile Zondi, rapper-entrepreneur Slikour and MTV Base's music programmer, Melanie Triegaardt.MTV Base channel director Tim Horwood said the local hip-hop industry had reached new heights."We did it in 2014 and it was an unprecedented discussion. So, we wanted to follow on from that and keep this platform we've created to help discuss and build South African hip-hop ."He said the hip-hop world was by its very nature conversational."People have their favourites, hip-hop is the closest thing to sport in the music field," he said.The show premiers next week on MTV Base...
