It is exam time and, as a principal of a small FET college in Randburg, I have to collect exam papers from distribution centres 90 minutes before they are written. Yesterday, I had just picked up exam papers when I was stopped by the police because of a broken tail-light.The officer asked me to open my boot, and when he saw the exam papers and learnt I was running late, he told me to follow him to Randburg as he cleared the way with lights flashing and sirens wailing.I felt like Jacob Zuma and Michael Schumacher all in one. Unfortunately I was only driving a Honda Jazz.Thank you, officer. FaraiCertain events lift the gloom and my upliftment today is due to the achievement of a young jazz vocalist from Mthatha.Vuyolwethu Sotashe placed third in the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz Vocals Competition in Los Angeles on Monday. The institute is the world's pre-eminent jazz education organisation. The arts is an area in which South Africans regularly excel, projecting our country in a positive light.Terrance Jeevanantham, Killarney..
