Riyaad sets his sights on Olympics

Ajax Cape Town winger Riyaad Norodien knows the value of reaching the Olympic Games next year as he waits to see where he will be included in the national squad for the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations that will be announced today by coach Owen da Gama. Norodien has been a regular for the Under-23 team this year and was in camp with the side last week in preparation for the continental finals in Senegal starting on November 28.Should South Africa finish in the top three they will book a place in Rio de Janeiro for next year's Olympics."It would be a great experience, and especially good for South Africa in helping to put the country's name on the footballing map," Norodien said."For myself it would benefit my game, and for where I see myself in the next three or four years . these tournaments help a player to improve."You come against some of the best young players in the world and that can only help to improve your game. That helps us, helps the national team and helps football in the country to grow to the next level."Norodien has been one of the most talked about players in the country since he burst onto the scene in April, following a contract dispute with Ajax that delayed the 20-year-old's debut.As one of the few genuine wingers in the Premier Soccer League, and one who appears to have all the attributes needed to get to the top of the game, a trip to Brazil next year would place him in the eye of European scouts...
