Rassie rides to the rescue of penniless Southern Kings

The shambles that is the Southern Kings Super rugby franchise suffered another blow to its image yesterday when Eastern Province coach Brett Janse van Rensburg resigned. And, as of yesterday, players had not been paid their November salaries. It has been a recurring theme at the union for several months.Today, South African Rugby Union general manager of rugby Rassie Erasmus arrives in Port Elizabeth to take over the reins of the franchise.Erasmus, who has not formally coached since 2009, will oversee strategy while members of Saru's high-performance Mobi-Unit will do the hands-on coaching.Chean Roux, Louis Koen, Pieter de Villiers and Jacques Nienaber are the quartet of coaches to be seconded to the Kings.Details of Saru's plan will be made public today once Erasmus has had a chance to consult the players and other role players. It is not yet known where the funds to run the Southern Kings will come from...
