Eskom appeals for sparing electricity use during ‘maintenance festival’

Eskom said that it will be taking advantage of a drop in demand for power to up its maintenance programme. The utility said Tuesday it “is progressing well with the maintenance of its power generating plant whilst keeping the electricity system stable”.The load shedding for Tuesday was “low”.Eskom said it experiences a “significant reduction in electricity demand… until about the second week of January” as factories and businesses close down for the holiday season.“Planned maintenance will be ramped up over the festive season to take advantage of this drop in demand in an effort to further improve the performance and reliability of Eskom’s power generating units‚” Eskom said.“Eskom would like to encourage customers to continue using electricity sparingly during this period in order to assist with the success of the maintenance festival.”..
