Rhodes scoops top scholarships again

Rhodes University may be one of the smallest in the country but this has not stopped it from punching above its weight by scooping a chunk of prestigious Mandela Rhodes scholarships this year. Of the 49 scholarships awarded, seven went to Rhodes graduates.Vice-chancellor Sizwe Mabizela yesterday praised the students for being awarded 14% of the scholarships that were up for grabs next year."We are absolutely delighted to once again attract this number of Mandela Rhodes Scholars."Tamika Fellows, who completed her honours in biotechnology this year, will start working on her masters degree.She will continue her work on a reliable CD4 aptasensor that can be used in rural areas."The lack of CD4 testing facilities is one of the major factors limiting antiretroviral penetration among HIV/Aids patients in Africa," she explained...
