Man dies of heart attack at finish line in St Francis Bay paddle race

A man died of a heart attack at the finishing line of a paddle race in St Francis Bay on Monday. Two cardiologists‚ who also took part in the paddle race‚ immediately began Cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts‚ according to an NSRI statement on Monday. They were assisted by NSRI medics monitoring the race.An ambulance arrived but the 51-year-old man was declared dead.On Monday afternoon NSRI St Francis Bay received 60 phone calls from witnesses reporting that a Hobie Cat had capsized two nautical miles from the Lighthouse.When the NSRI crew arrived they found a man and woman wearing lifejackets and hanging on to the upturned craft in the gusting to 30-knot winds.The NSRI Agulhas assisted six men fishing the waters off Arniston and Struisbaai whose vessel suffering mechanical motor failure as a result of contaminated fuel.
