A man and a woman were shot while they were waiting for breakdown services along the N12 East near Voortrekker Road in Joburg South.

A 48-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his upper and lower leg, while his wife also in her forties sustained a gunshot wound to her stomach.

It is understood from the man that they were on their way home from holiday when their BMW X3 broke down along the N12 near the Voortrekker Road off ramp.

While waiting in the emergency lane for breakdown services an unknown man apparently appeared and demanded valuables from the couple. Shortly thereafter he opened fire at the couple and ran away.

The husband explained that he managed to get out of the vehicle and flag down passing motorists to call for help, reported ER24.

The couple were treated on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Members from the police and CPF attended the incident.
