South Africa's top entertainers were out in numbers to find out who could become a legend at this year's Metro FM Music Awards nominations.

With the theme "Legends Don't Stop, They Ask What's Next?", the 15th edition of the annual awards takes place in Durban on February 27.

The mood at the nominations, at the Forum in Bryanston, was jovial, with banter and singing on the black carpet. Host for the evening, Metro FM DJ Phat Joe, spiced things up, saying, ''thatha Sama thatha'' (take that, Samas).

Zahara and man of the moment, Nathi, both gave soulful renditions of their current big hits.

Leading the pack with the most nominations is Afro pop artist Nathi with five nods, including for best African pop album and best male album for Buyelekaya and best hit single, best R&B single and song of the year for Nomvula.

DJ duo Sphectacula and Naves and rapper eMtee Da Hustla got four nominations each - for best dance album and best duo or group for the album Kings of the Weekend, while the album's signature song Kings of The WeekendAnthem received best music video and best collaboration nods.

Newbie eMtee da Hustla raked in nominations for best music video for smash hit Roll Up, best hip-hop album for Avery, best new artist and best remix for Roll Up Re-Up featuring AKA and Wizkid.

DJ Black Coffee's Pieces of Me was nominated for best dance album and best male album, while his We Dance Again received the song of the year nomination.

Reason and ProVerb missed the cut in the hip-hop category.
