Mpumalanga police are on a manhunt for seven men who robbed a KFC outlet after pulling into the drive-through under the pretext that they wanted to buy food.
Provincial police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the KFC robbery happened in Middelburg in the early hours of Monday. He said this was the first of two robberies, with the second one taking place at a retail shop in Belfast.
"First to be reported was a robbery that occurred at about 02:55 on Monday, where seven men went into a drive-through of KFC and pointed at a cashier with a firearm after pretending they wanted to buy food. The cashier managed to escape and two of the suspects jumped inside the shop through the window leaving the other suspects on guard," said Mohlala on Tuesday.
Mohlala said after robbing the KFC outlet of an undisclosed amount of cash, they fled the scene in a blue vehicle.
He said in the second incident two employees from a retail shop in Belfast were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash while on their way to the bank.
"Three unknown armed men approached them and forcefully took a crate that was containing money from the victims at gunpoint. They then fled the scene on foot," he said.
Mohlala said police haven't made any arrests in both incidents.
