Ntuli gets the boot in Holland

28 January 2016 - 02:26 By Mark Gleeson

The career of South African junior international Nhlakanipho Ntuli in the Netherlands has come to an abrupt end, while the issue of a move from Dutch league leaders Ajax Amsterdam for Thulani Serero is back on the agenda. The 19-year-old Ntuli has had his contract at Twente Enschede terminated as the club cuts costs in a bid to solve its financial woes.He is among several players shown the door in recent days and is now free to join any club of his choice. But Ntuli, who played last season for Twente's reserves in the Dutch second division, and has had no senior football experience in this campaign, has limited options in the Netherlands because of the restrictions on foreign players once they pass junior level. To ensure there are only high-quality imports in the Dutch league, any foreigner must be paid a minimum salary of à414000 (R7.5-million) a year. That is considerably more than the average wage for a Dutch player in the top flight.Ntuli went to the Dutch club as a junior and was registered as an amateur, so the restrictions did not apply to him.But now that he has graduated, he will find it hard to find any Dutch club willing to pay a top-level salary for a teenager who has not played top-flight football.Serero's future at Ajax is again in doubt after coach Frank de Boer brought up the question of a new signing for the club before the transfer window closes on Monday...
