Lengthy jail terms for Alexandra hawker Sithole's killers

A man who attacked and killed Mozambican hawker Emmanuel Josias Sithole was on Monday sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. Mthinto Bhengu‚ 22‚ previously served six months in jail for assaulting a foreigner three years ago. Investigating officer Detective Rapule James Maaba testified last week that Bhengu was part of a mob that attacked foreign shop owners during the 2013 flare-up of xenophobic violence‚ the Sunday Times reported at the weekend.His co-accused in Sithole’s trial‚ Sifundo Mzimela‚ 21‚ was given a 10-year sentence.Sithole was killed on April 18 last year after demanding money from some of the accused‚ who had taken cigarettes and sweets from his stall without paying.
