The former Hawks boss in Mpumalanga, Major General Simon Mapyane, has been axed for submitting fraudulent travel claims.

He was found guilty of misrepresentation at a disciplinary hearing, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Mapyane made five fraudulent travel claims in which he misrepresented the facts, having claimed to have used his private vehicle for official duties, whereas he used state vehicles, as well as having claimed for trip he did not undertake."

The disciplinary committee found him guilty of all five charges and dismissed him with immediate effect.

"No one is above the law and the claws of the law are out to root out all corruption within our ranks,” national Hawks head Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza said.
