A police constable has been arrested for allegedly killing a colleague in Rietfontein, Pretoria, a fortnight ago, the Hawks said on Wednesday.

Constable Rishen Rampashard, of the Pretoria West police station, was arrested last Friday and appeared in court on Monday, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

Lieutenant Colonel Renier Lourens Lagois, 51, was shot 14 times at his home in Rietondale, Pretoria, on January 19.

His 1993 Toyota Corolla was stolen and found abandoned 7km from the murder scene.

Rampashard would remain in custody and be back in court next Monday to apply for bail.

Lagois was the head of support at the Leote police station in Pretoria.
