Cards cost Blitzboks

Ill-discipline again cost the Blitzboks as they ended fourth in the latest leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series in Sydney yesterday.New Zealand won the crown with a last-gasp 27-24 victory over hosts Australia - their second title in a week following victory in the third leg in Wellington seven days earlier.With SA coming fourth, Fiji taking bronze and NZ gold, those three sides are tied at the top of the standings on 69 points with the halfway mark of the season still not reached.Teams have nearly a month off before the fifth of the 10-tournament season takes place in Las Vegas in early March.SA came through their Pool with three wins but lost captain Philip Snyman to injury on day one.They cruised to a 26-0 win over Argentina in the quarterfinals but against hosts Australia in the semifinal their poor discipline cost them.Trailing 12-7 with two minutes on the clock Kwagga Smith earned a yellow card for a high tackle. There was no way back into the game from there and to compound matters Smith was suspended for the third-place play-off against Fiji.In the bronze medal match Rosko Specman earned a yellow card for failing to retreat the required distance from a penalty, which allowed Fiji to kill the contest. Fiji added a fourth try and ran out comfortable 26-12 winners...
