Date clash delays SABC crew robbery trial

The trial of the alleged SABC News television crew robbers has been postponed again. The matter was held over on Thursday at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court because one of the defence lawyers was needed for another matter in the Johannesburg High Court.Previously‚ the case had been postponed because another defence lawyer was ill.The four alleged robbers - Manuel Junior‚ Alfred Ndlovu‚ Clement Ncube and Motin Mortin - allegedly robbed journalists Sophie Letsaba‚ Vuyo Mvoko‚ Tlhapane Monaisa‚ Tsakani Malwandla and Chriselda Lewis at gunpoint in March last year‚ stealing cell phones‚ a laptop‚ a wristwatch and cash.The robbery took place outside Milpark Hospital in Parktown‚ Johannesburg. Video footage of the robbery‚ caught by SABC cameras‚ show the faces of two robbers.Mortin is the only one of the accused gang that is out on bail. The others will be held in custody until the case returns to court in March.Magistrate André Petersen warned witnesses to be prepared to testify at the next appearance. He also said that the prosecutor who had handled the case previously‚ Pearl Pillay‚ had been reassigned to another court and that a prosecutor unknown at this stage will take over...
