Sangoma to be charged for alleged cruelty to monkey, tortoises

The 62-year-old woman of Botchabelo Mangaung‚ who had no permits for the animals‚ will also face various charges under the Ordinance of Nature Conservation No 8 of 1969.According to the Bloemfontein SPCA‚ a complaint about the animals was received after an investigation into a case of suspected murder. The cage that the monkey and tortoises were being kept in was totally unsuitable and unacceptable and none of the animals had any water or food‚ the SPCA said.“One of the tortoises was lying on its back in a zinc pan and was unable to get back on its feet.“The cage in which the animals were being kept was filthy dirty and stank. It was also far too small to keep eight tortoises in as well as far too small to keep a vervet monkey in‚” the SPCA said...
