South African comedy series Puppet Nation ZA could soon be broadcast on UK and US television network stations.Producer Thierry Cassuto said they were in discussions with British television networks to license the format and with US television representatives to get the show on US television networks.Puppet Nation, which is available on YouTube and broadcast on StarSat, was nominated for 11 South African Film and Television Awards in categories including best television comedy, best lead actors, production, costume design, editing, sound and directing. With the use of puppet replicas of public figures such as President Jacob Zuma, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, comedian Trevor Noah and EFF leader Julius Malema, Puppet Nation ZA reflects on current affairs both locally and internationally.Cassuto said the show took on the role of societal jester and focused on exposing the truth. He added: "The role of satire has always been to relieve tension, to speak truth to power without the fear of being threatened. It's a way to bring out the truth.to challenge the status quo; it has a progressive mandate to fight for justice and truth, and usually for the underdog."Comedian and actor in Puppet Nation ZA Nik Rabinowitz said the emphasis was on pleasure."It's like asking if the role of the roasted potato is purely to combat hunger or to give you a reason to go on living. Actually the role of satire is to make you laugh but also to make you feel clever."..
