NSRI appeals to ‘paddlers to stencil a contact number on their craft’

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) on Friday appealed to “all paddlers to stencil a contact number on their craft”. This came after the volunteer organisation published a photograph it had received of a kayak that “was apparently found washed up on the beach at Kleinsee (West Coast) early last week and appears to be in good condition”.“NSRI has just been sent this photograph – do you recognise the craft?” it asked on its website.A contact number stencilled on a craft would mean the NRSI would be able to reach the owner‚ which in turn “means that someone can immediately call and check if you are safe – and we can return the craft to you”.If you have any information about the recovered kayak‚ contact Samuel Maree of the South Africa Maritime Mobile Net on 083 676 1606.On Thursday‚ the NSRI said “boaters and paddlers are advised to exercise extreme caution” as the full moon spring tide‚ which peaked this week‚ “will cause stronger than normal rip currents around the coast”.“We can expect bigger waves this Easter weekend which‚ when combined with the spring tide‚ will make the rip currents more dangerous than usual‚” the NSRI said in a statement...
