City Roofs: Party that delivers boom with a view

Koolout is a hip hop-themed rooftop party that takes place on the last Sunday of every month. The collective put on an event called Koolin' In The City on Sunday in downtown Johannesburg.The line-up attracted hip-hop heads and celebrities like Live Amp host Luthando Shosha, better known as Lootlove.Koolin' In The City has a ''rooftop market"-style set-up and the laid-back party people came dressed in urban style inspired by their favourite hip-hop stars - sleek caps, basketball T-shirts and sneakers, shortie shorts and shades. Brought to Johannesburg by one of South Africa's best- known rappers, Sizwe Moeketsi, aka Reason, the event provides a monthly opportunity to experience the best hip-hop DJs and live performances on the Johannesburg hip-hop scene.Regular performers include the founder of the nightlife brand Kool Out Entertainment, DJ ID - real name Akio Kawahito, a half-Asian, half-Dutch DJ who originates from Tennessee, and has held DJ residencies in Nagoya, Japan and Amsterdam.He now lives in South Africa.The line-up also included P-Kuttah (Verdine Petersen), who joined Kool Out Entertainment in 2011 after establishing himself as one of Durban's hottest hip-hop DJs.Jab A Jaw , Bexta and Earthly Tim, were also on the decks encouraging the crowd to do the trendy dance of the moment, the ''dab dance"Headliner of the day, Revivalution, is a hip-hop collective based in Johannesburg composed of six rappers, a producer and a graphic designer.Catch the next party on the last Sunday of the month at Koolin' In The City rooftop, 77 Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.For more info go to koolout.co.za..
