A Kloof man pleaded guilty to 1,132 counts of possession of child pornography and received a suspended sentence on Thursday.

He was also given a R30,000 fine.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said that 39-year-old Matthy Zondagh was handed a R30 000 fine and ten years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, by the Pinetown Magistrates Court.

"Members of the Project Spiderweb acted on an intelligence driven information and a search and seizure operation was conducted at Kloof on in April last year. The accused was found at his house in possession of a memory stick containing child pornography images," she said.

"He was then placed under arrest and charged with possessing child pornography. He made several court appearances until his sentence. He pleaded guilty to 1 132 counts of possession of child pornography," she added.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: "Parents should keep a close eye on who their children are chatting to on social networks, what they are chatting about and the pictures they are sharing. This sentence is a proof that criminals cannot get away after committing such misdeeds."
