Shadow Play: All it takes is a little pluck

Here's a fun, social experiment for all of you budgie-smugglers out there: go get your make-up done and then tell your colleagues.Chances are that you when you return to the office you'll have an audience akin to a live screening of The Revival of Frankenstein's Monster. For reasons Twitter will explain, men applying make-up for reasons other than appearing on television is almost completely unheard of.It's easy to understand why. Over the eons men, with their hairy-chested, wood-chopping masculinity, have lumped cosmetics in a box labelled "dangerously effeminate", thus we're a little chicken when it comes to beautification."Men tend to be intimidated when it comes to make-up, so they stick more to skin-care products, said Alicia Schutte, a resident trainer at Bobbi Brown.Perched delicately on a chair, surrounded by mirrors, powders and brushes, I soon learnt that all of my nerves were baseless. There was a dab of foundation here and warm chestnut powder there, but nothing near the insanity seen on Kim Kardashian's Instagram feed.As it turned out there was little difference between my face beforehand and its lightly powdered reincarnation."For guys I think the idea is to go as natural as possible," said Schutte. If foundation brings the ladies to the station, or just makes you look good, then why should we be any more concerned about it than using skin cream? For make-up application tutorials visit www.bobbibrown.co.za...
