Rev Mpho Tutu cleared to return to work after probe

The Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu Van Furth is back at her desk as executive director of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation‚ after an investigation initiated by the board after her December wedding. Her leadership was brought into question after her marriage to a Dutch professor‚ Marceline van Furth‚ who heads an Amsterdam university medical centre linked to the Desmond and Leah foundation.The Board of the foundation suspended her while it investigated its systems of accountability to prevent any accusation of a potential conflict of interest.On Tuesday‚ the board said in a statement it has "concluded its audit of the institution's administrative and governance systems and ordered its Executive Director‚ the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu Van Furth‚ back to work"."In January‚ as a precautionary measure‚ the Board asked the Reverend Canon Tutu to step aside (the Executive Director also serves on the Board). On Monday‚ having completed its examination‚ the Board pronounced itself 'more than satisfied' with the Foundation's systems."Board spokesman Don MacRobert said: "We emphasise that no impropriety was alleged‚ suspected or discovered. It was an internal exercise to ensure the Foundation's systems accord with the highest international standards."Reverend Tutu was previously married and has two children‚ the Citizen newspaper reported previously‚ adding that Tutu-van Furth is a professor in paediatric infectious diseases in the VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam and founder of Kids2KidsAfrica...
