The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) on Monday wished liberation struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela a speedy recovery.
Madikizela-Mandela has reportedly been in hospital for a few weeks because of complications from previous back surgery.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mama Winnie for strength and rapid recuperation. We are confident that the mother of the nation's resilience‚ courage and fighting spirit including the care she is receiving from the medical team that is looking after her will pull her through‚"said SANCO national spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu.
Mahlangu said that though Madikizela-Mandela had been through the worst in the face of detention and isolation during the incarceration of her former husband‚ the late Nelson Mandela‚ she had inspired and kept the hopes of the oppressed masses alive during a difficult time.
"She is undoubtedly one of the highly revered leaders in South Africa and close to the hearts of many in our communities‚" he added.
