Nyanga’s unenviable "murder capital of South Africa" label was reinforced in the most horrifying way on Tuesday night‚ when four people were shot dead in the Cape Town township. They included an 83-year-old grandmother‚ a boy of eight and a 15-year-old girl. Police asked for help on Wednesday in tracing the killers. The bloodshed began at 6.50pm when a 43-year-old man sitting in a vehicle in Sibini Avenue‚ Zwelitsha‚ was shot by two men. He died shortly after arriving at hospital.Police spokesman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said about 11pm three men went to a house in the same street and killed the 83-year-old woman whose grandson they were looking for."From here the suspects proceeded to a residence in Kuqala Avenue‚ in Zwelitsha‚ where a boy aged eight and a 15-year-old girl were shot and killed. Another child‚ a girl aged seven‚ was shot and wounded and admitted to hospital."Nyanga recorded 300 murders in 2014/15‚ according to crime statistics released last September‚ and Community Policing Forum secretary Dumisani Qwebe vowed at the time: “Nyanga will no longer become a murder capital. This is the last year.”..
