500 nabbed in Cape Town weekend clampdown

Five hundred people were arrested in a weekend crime prevention blitz in Cape Town which netted illegal firearms‚ drugs‚ counterfeit goods and fugitives wanted for murder. More than 220 of those arrested in the Nyanga cluster policing precinct were rounded up for dealing and possession of drugs‚ said police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.Six unlicenced firearms were seized along with dagga‚ mandrax‚ crystal methamphetamine‚ liquor and heroin.“Eighty eight suspects alone were wanted suspects‚ and the rest were apprehended for crimes ranging from murder and attempted murder‚ hijacking‚ dealing in liquor‚ crimes against women and children‚ possession of stolen and hijacked vehicles‚ possession of housebreaking implements and stolen property‚” said Rwexana.One of the weapons recovered was a 9mm Glock that was reported stolen last year in Camps Bay.
