Situation in Hammanskraal tense as protests continue

The situation in Hammanskraal north of Pretoria is tense as violent community protests continue in the area. Three Starline buses were reportedly burnt and cars stoned on Monday morning as community members protest over the removal of shacks that were illegally erected in an area near the Jubilee Mall.Eyewitnesses say residents set a bus alight and barricaded the R101 leading into #Hammanskraal. pic.twitter.com/sGrxi9iLPO— Jacaranda News (@JacaNews) May 23, 2016async The communities affected are Kanana and Suurman.Police spokesperson WO Lolo Mangena said the situation was currently volatile."The situation is currently very bad. It’s not advisable to go into the area as a group of about 100 people are gathered in protests. They have blocked the road and are stoning cars who come near the area‚" he said.Shops were closed and the R101 North of Pretoria at Hammanskraal road was also closed...
