It might seem like SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter has the edge in the Nedbank Cup final, given the silverware he has amassed in his career. But his rival in Saturday's encounter, Orlando Pirates manager Eric Tinkler, is no slouch either.Tinkler has tasted success in knockout competitions as an assistant coach and will certainly utilise the valuable lessons he learnt in that time.Sundowns an obstacle in Pirates' coach Eric Tinkler’s hunt for silverwareThe 16 remaining sides in the Nedbank Cup will learn their fate in the second draw on Thursday which, for some of the domestic game's biggest names, provides a final opportunity for silverware this season. In fact, Tinkler helped secure the Nedbank Cup twice before with Bidvest Wits in 2010 and with Pirates in 2014.But to win the trophy as the head coach of the Pirates would be extra special for Tinkler. This is especially true as he has had a difficult time in the hot seat.Winning the competition will not guarantee that he will keep his job, but it might convince management to give him another shot at the league title next season.Said Tinkler: "It's important for me to win the Nedbank Cup. In all walks of life the first thing you get questioned about is your experience. The second thing is whether you have won trophies. When you win trophies, then all of a sudden you are experienced. Hopefully I can do that in my first season, but it's going to be a tough task," said Tinkler."I won the Nedbank Cup at Wits and that happened just before the [2010] World Cup. It was a phenomenal experience."And winning it under [Vladimir Vermezovic, in 2014], I took the lessons from that. Hopefully I can take those experiences into the game."'It's going to happen for me at Pirates,' says MemelaWhen you have struggled for as long as Luvuyo Memela just to make it to the Premier Soccer League - a good eight years - then any chance you get at a big team like Orlando Pirates you will grab as if your life depends on it. Tinkler will have winger Luvuyo Memela back after the player was rested last weekend.Memela, who has been one of the stars in the competition with three goals, is on three yellow cards and Tinkler did not want to risk playing him and possibly losing him for the final."We had a number of players on three yellow cards, including Thabo Matlaba and Brighton Mhlongo. Everybody wants to get into the 18-man squad, so that's been good."Baxter was unable to attend the press conference on Thursday because he had to be hospitalised after suffering an allergic reaction.United sent assistant coach Kaitano Tembo in his place.Tembo spoke to the media with the same calm he showed in his days as a player."It's an important game for us and we are focused. We did not have a good first half of the season, but since the appointment of Baxter the team has improved and that's why we find ourselves here."Everyone is motivated, we have the hunger and we are looking forward to it. It's really encouraging."United will be hoping Baxter will perform the same magic on them that he did with Kaizer Chiefs. He led Chiefs to two successful cup finals before leaving them at the end of last season...
