Mining minister calls for perpetrators of Northam violence to be brought to book

Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane has appealed for calm at Northam in Limpopo where two mineworkers have been killed and vehicles torched after clashes between rival unions.Zwane on Wednesday called on law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators of violence to book. Northam Platinum halted production at its Zondereinde mine after a National Union of Mineworkers member was shot in the back of the head and a second man stabbed to death with an assegaiZwane plans to visit the area on Thursday. "We are also making an appeal to stakeholders not to engage in any conduct that would undermine the Framework Agreement for a Sustainable Mining Industry‚ particularly in ensuring the rule of law‚ peace and stability‚" said Zwane.Police have maintained a heavy presence in the area. – TMG Digital..
