Mosimane buoyant

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is not a man given to smiling, even when his team pulls off a stunning victory. Given their well-documented travails in inter continental clashes , Sundowns' 2-0 win over Algerian giants ES Setif on Saturday night is nothing to scoff at.It was certainly not a result that sat well with the firmly partisan North African crowd, but Mosimane felt football fans got a good game."You can't say it wasn't satisfying," he said."At the end of the day, we've got Champions League football next year and this year's tournament is merely just a form of experimentation."We've got nothing to lose and we're just having fun. There's less stress and less pressure. We just need to do what we need to do with minimal preparation."He added: "Their season finished later than ours and they were far more prepared for the game than we were. They had registered six new players and they really strengthened their side ahead of the game. They also had a new coach and they were in great shape. Maybe we needed that mentality of having to worry about less issues."The win was Sundowns' first in North Africa and their first on the road in all African matches this year. With various CAF club competitions peppered with defeats to Medeama SC, AS Vita and even the unheralded Chicken Inn, it seemed the Brazilians were far too accustomed to home comforts.Sundowns had two clear-cut chances and they pounced on both, with Tiyani Mabunda and Khama Billiat being the scorers. The victory is all the more surprising given that seven first-choice players were unavailable due to injuries, disciplinary issues, suspensions and contractual matters. Club captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele's absence was the most conspicuous. It is believed his contract will expire at the end of the month and Kaizer Chiefs are keen on signing him.Mosimane said: "We need Rama and we'd like him to stay in the team but the issue is beyond me."The situation he finds himself in at the moment is part of football and it's happened to many other players."I hear that Chiefs want to break the bank for him. What can you do?" Mosimane said...
