Magistrate orders Bozwana murder accused’s identities be withheld to protect them

The case of the murder of North West businessman Wandile Bozwana has been postponed to August for further investigation and to allow four men charged for his murder to apply for bail. The accused stood stone-faced and sometimes chatted among themselves as the Pretoria Magistrates Court‚ sitting at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre‚ heard their case on Wednesday morning. The court had ordered the men not be identified in order to protect them against harassment from inmates inside the Kgosi Mampuru II prison where they are being held.State prosecutor Matric Luphondo proposed that the matter be postponed following the recent arrest of the fourth suspect and to allow them to apply for bail. They are facing charges in connection with Bozwana's murder and the attempted murder of Bozwana's female companion Mpho Baloyi in October last year. The two were travelling in a Renault Clio and had stopped at a traffic light on the N1 Garsfontein offramp when a BMW M3 pulled up next to them.It is alleged that an armed man jumped out of the BMW and unleashed an salvo of bullets – two of which hit Baloyi‚ who survived‚ and at least nine hit Bozwana‚ who later died in hospital. It is believed that it was a hit linked to Bozwana's court battles against the North West government.– TMG Digital/Sowetan..
