30 June 2016 - 10:45 By Rea Khoabane

South African celebrities, wearing South African designs, owned the red carpet at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. Radio and TV personality Lerato Kganyago rocked a Quiteria & George dress, actress Terry Pheto wore a leopard frock dress by Marianne Fassler and up-and-coming songstress Nandi Mngoma was the centre of attention when she wore a piece from her debut fashion collection, called ''Colour", a collaboration with designer Inga Madyibi. The designer says their collection will have a sorbet colour palette.Mngoma admits she thought the dress would cause a stir, creating publicity for the new clothing line. "But we didn't expect this much praise from all over the world."Fassler, who's been a designer for more than 30 years, says she's pleased to see our celebrities embracing local design and wearing it internationally.Pheto's dress is from her A/W2016 collection, launched at the Mercedes-Benz Joburg Fashion Week this year. The dress features a spiderweb design delicately applied to a richly beaded lining."The most interesting feature is the effect of transparency. You can trace the spiderweb all over the skirt. The dress was 'pulled together' with velvet lines and a beautiful feather-neck detail."..
