Cops lauded for ‘impeccable job’ after three hijack suspects shot

A suspected hijacker was reported to be in a critical condition after a shooutout on the N14 at the Petroport north of Johannesburg on Thursday morning.His two alleged accomplices were also apprehended after also having sustained injuries when they came under police fire between the R511 and the R512 in Nooitgedacht.EMER-G-MED said its “paramedics arrived first on the scene…to find a heavy police presence with a South African Police Services (SAPS) helicopter circling overhead - searching for the suspected hijackers”. “The suspected stolen bakkie was found in a veld a distance away from the highway‚ allegedly after having gone off-road in an attempt to flee‚” the service said in a statement.“It's believed that the police were on the lookout for the stolen bakkie‚ when it was spotted on the N14 highway. The suspects noticed the police and opened fire‚ a shootout then ensued - while the suspects attempted to flee.”One of the suspects was shot in the chest and required rapid advanced life support intervention‚ EMER-G-MED said‚ while another “was shot in the leg‚ and the third sustained a bullet graze which didn't require hospital care”.EMER-G-MED said the SAPS “did a impeccable job and managed to arrest all of the suspected hijackers”.The highway in the vicinity of the shooting had to be closed to traffic‚ causing massive congestion‚ while police officers conducted investigations on the scene. ..
