Gumtree nappy scam woman denied bail

An alleged Gumtree fraudster‚ accused of stealing more than R30 000 in a baby nappies scam‚ was denied bail on Friday‚ police have said. The woman‚ 23‚ allegedly advertised an opportunity to buy and sell baby nappies from a company‚ NKE BABIES.According to the complainant‚ an amount of R32 735 was deposited into the woman's account for an order of nappies.When the nappies failed to arrive‚ the complainant followed up with the woman but received no word on its progress. The matter was then reported to the police‚ who nabbed the woman on Thursday.“They went to her home and she was not found. After getting more information from the complainant‚ she was arrested in Montana [Pretoria]‚” South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said.The woman was denied bail at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday.Selepe said police are looking for links between the woman and a number of other cases of fraud.“There is a possibility that more charges will be added‚” she said.The woman currently faces one count of fraud.In a statement police said: “We urge members of the public to beware of such criminal activities. [In] this matter it was fortunate to trace the suspect. In some [instances] it's difficult to trace suspects because the website does not vet or take identification details from its users.”The case was postponed to August 30...
