KFC launches sunscreen that smells finger lickin' good

24 August 2016 - 02:16 By The Daily Telegraph

First it launched edible "chicken-flavoured" nail varnish; now, KFC has expanded its interests in the beauty world by launching a sunscreen. The face of the "extra crispy" campaign, George Hamilton, is tanned a deep shade of mahogany. Only available in the US, the fast food chain is giving away 3000 bottles of Colonel Sanders' Extra Crispy Sunscreen. The brand is expecting it to become an item that KFC fans will be hungry to get their hands on. And its unique selling point? The sunscreen smells of fried chicken."Suntan lotion always smells like lotion," KFC's chief marketing officer, Kevin Hochman, said yesterday. "So we thought - why not make it smell like fried chicken?" Why not indeed - that's clearly what you want to be smelling of in strong heat."These scents bring up these memories, often of childhood visits to KFC," Hochman said. "We think that idea is why the sunscreen will catch on."In May KFC debuted edible nail polish in Hong Kong. The chain worked with the spice company McCormick, which created KFC's "secret mix of 11 herbs and spices" for its chicken. It launched two "flavours" of nail varnish - Original and Hot & Spicy. The Original was a glittery beige and Hot & Spicy a muddy shade of Tabasco.Does this new sunscreen signal a new beauty branch of KFC? Let's hope not...
