Oscar gets a Zef lesson

02 September 2016 - 09:07 By GRAEME HOSKEN

It's level met die gravel but far from the tar. It's hard-hitting, punchy, raw and gritty and it's pissing some people off. It's drugs, rage, house parties and near murder. It's Die Antwoord, SA's internationally acclaimed Zef group and their latest music video Banana Brain. It parodies Oscar Pistorius, ripping off his actions the night he gunned down his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day 2013.The video, viewed nearly half a million times, has made some music magazines balk at its "questionable" content. Its poster quotes a statement made by Oscar that reads: "Reeva wil my nie in tronk hê" [Reeva doesn't want me in jail]. In the video, the band's Ninja picks up ¥o-landi Vi$$er from a house nearly identical to Pistorius's Silver Lakes home and drives to a house party.Ninja, carelessly brandishing a water pistol, shoots out of the window of the speeding car in scenes that closely mimic Pistorius's behaviour with firearms. He does, however, stop short at shooting ¥o-landi through a locked bathroom door. It's Ninja's love for ¥o-landi that bores through his rage at catching her making out with another woman at the party. And it's his love that drives him instead to kick down the door with his prosthetic limbs - nearly identical to Pistorius's running blades. The video and its coochie-coo lyrics, mocking some of the cute Whatsapp messages between Steenkamp and Pistorius that were read out during his murder trial, have neither moved nor fazed the Blade Runner's family. Not even these lines:"Banana brains, you're the apple of my eye / Stay with me tonight / Cause I'm having the best time of my life / Banana brains, you're the apple of my eye / Stay with me tonight / Cause I'm having the best time of my life."Nor the words:"Baby girl, you're so fine / So, so fine, you blow my mind / Look at you, coochie coo / Juicy, tushy, gushy, goo / Boobie one, boobie two / Bouncing like a Looney Tune ..."Pistorius's uncle, Arnold Pistorius, told The Times that he had never heard of Die Antwoord. "I do not move in those circles. Whatever they say, I do not care. I cannot say that what they are saying is 'die antwoord' [the answer] to this tragedy."He said the only thing that he could say was that prosecutor Gerrie Nel had been successful in destroying Oscar Pistorius's reputation: "He succeeded in this through his lies."On Pistorius's wellbeing after his alleged suicide attempts, Pistorius said: "I have not seen or spoken to Oscar in a while, but as you can imagine prison is not a holiday camp."Lashing out at Die Antwoord, their haters took to Twitter.@sa_poptart wrote: "In which Die Antwoord reach new lows as they spoof Oscar Pistorius and the murder."Stop Panic Attacks ?@stop_panic_101 wrote: "Die Antwoord Takes Shots At Oscar Pistorius In New Music Video".Lovers of Die Antwoord, however, hit back with:?@JeremieEric215 ?s?o?u??? ? ?@FrancoisCTown"Bit of #OscarPistorius throwback in @DieAntwoord new video #BananaBrain ?"@SlashHairNet DIE ANTWOORD - BANANA BRAIN: https://youtu.be/XXlZfc1TrD0 love em or hate em, I love em - especially the Oscar Pistorius reference :-D xXx -- Additional reporting by TMG Digital..
