NGO Section 27 and police are in discussions about the investigation of suspicious deaths linked to Precious Angels, an NGO where it is alleged eight psychiatric patients died recently.

Section 27 demanded a written undertaking from the police last week that they would investigate the deaths, as required by the Inquest Act. Police said they would explain to media today what further action would be taken.

Gauteng health MEC Qedani Mahlangu confirmed last week that 36 patients had died when they were moved from Life Esidemeni homes into a number of NGOs. A number of relocated patients died at Takalani Home in Soweto.

The newly appointed health ombudsman is investigating the deaths.
