Think outside the Boks this weekend

23 September 2016 - 10:35 By Mike Makaab

New Zealand predictably won the Rugby Championship by whipping the Springboks last weekend. While some may argue the Boks put up a spirited performance, since when has it been acceptable for a South African rugby team to lose by almost 30 points to the All Blacks?Never, and nothing will change that for Bok supporters. This week the competition takes a break and when the Boks return they will be playing for pride against the Wallabies at Loftus, followed by their final game against the All Blacks the following week in Durban.I'd like to take a double on a Bok win over the Aussies and an All Blacks win against the Boks. Our focus in rugby shifts to Currie Cup this weekend with some teams scrambling for a place in the semifinals. The Free State Cheetahs have two games left and if they win this weekend, away at the Pumas, they are certain of topping the log. The Cheetahs are taken to win.The Bulls travel to Boland and look certain of victory to assure themselves a semifinal berth (go for a Bulls win). The Golden Lions make the trip to bottom union EP Kings and will be super confident of a win, which will keep their top four hopes alive (go for a Golden Lions win). The fourth match of the weekend is not that easy to predict, with Griquas hosting Western Province. Unbeaten in their three home games in the Currie Cup proper, I give Griquas a slight edge over a team that has not travelled well...
