Trains between the De Wildt and Pretoria stations were delayed by 45 minutes following a derailment of a train in Ga-Rankuwa on Monday morning.
“Empty coach T9911 overshot the platform end. Four coaches are off the tracks and one coach is completely on the ground‚” Metrorail said in a statement.
“The train personnel did not suffer any injuries. Metrorail technicians are on the scene to assess the extent of the damage to the infrastructure and to clear the derailed train.”
The company said a single line is being used at the moment between the De Wildt and Rosslyn stations.
“A board of enquiry will be instituted to determine the root cause of derailment‚” the statement further read.
