Mob rampages at Qunu school

Eastern Cape education bosses have issued an impassioned plea to communities to prioritise schooling for their children. Milton Mbekela Senior Secondary School, in Nelson Mandela's home village of Qunu, was nearly razed on Friday night by a mob.The destruction brings to 14 the number of schools vandalised in the OR Tambo district since April . At least six schools were torched.Milton Mbekela principal Bongani Mda estimated the damage at about R30000."Each block has about 16 windows and they have all been shattered. There were also attempts to burn down the school."They tried to torch a class by putting a burning tyre on one of the desks."Education spokesman Mali Mtima said: "I am shocked . We beg people to think about the future of their children. " ..
