Tears flowed at the memorial service for the police captain who was shot and killed at the Tembisa Magistrate's Court. Malesela Alfred Lamola died from a gun shot wound to the lower body on Wednesday last week.He was allegedly shot by Joshua 'Bomba' Shongwane who was due to appear in court for a string of car hijackings.Shongwane is still at large.Family representative Molahlehi Makhothi said Lamola was dedicated to his work."He is an irreparable loss. He was a humble‚ kind‚ loving man and always smiling‚" he said.Makhothi blamed the community for not being proactive calling for stricter laws on criminals."Community‚ you are letting us down. We call meetings and there is poor attendance. Let us partner with the police and support them."We need to have harder and stricter laws. This thing of giving people (criminals) bail and human rights saying they have rights (is not right). Some of us can feel like calling for the death sentence‚" he said.Gauteng provincial police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini appealed to the community not to approach Shongwane as he was considered armed and dangerous.Dlamini said an investigation was in progress to determine how Shongwane got hold of a firearm while he was in the cells.Shongwane also escaped from the same court cells last year but was later re-arrested.
