Two pedestrians killed on N1 on West Rand

Two pedestrians were killed within an hour of one another on the N1 freeway between Beyers Naude and Gordon Roads on the West Rand on Saturday night‚ ER24 said. “Shortly after 7pm paramedics from ER24 arrived on the N1 north near Gordon Road where they found a male pedestrian with fatal injuries. He was still lying in the middle lane of the highway. There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene. “An hour later‚ paramedics from ER24 responded to another pedestrian that was knocked down on the N1 near Beyers Naude Drive. Paramedics found the man lying in the middle of the road with fatal injuries. He was later declared dead on the scene‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak. The vehicle that collided with the pedestrian was also hit by another vehicle after it came to a standstill on the highway‚ he said. Three people‚ including a child‚ sustained minor injuries.
